IML system

The labeling system in the IML mold is beginning to be widely used to enhance the visual and performance quality of products and packaging

The labeling system in the mold is an advanced pre-decoration technique used for injected containers and lids, as well as for bottles made by blowing hollow bodies. The system was introduced in Europe in the 70's. The technique is nowadays a very used method for the enhancement of the products and has replaced the decoration with autoadhesivos and the one of thermal transfer.

The IML process consists of an almost simultaneous operation of molding a container and labeling it. In the case of injection of thermoplastics, the label is placed in an open mold by means of a robot and held in the desired position by electrostatic and vacuum attraction. The mold closes and the molten plastic resin is injected into the mold cavity where the final shape of the product is achieved.

The high graphic resolution of the label is one of the great benefits of the IML system improving the appearance and sophistication of a large number of products on the market that seek to distinguish themselves from the competition. Several of the most important advantages of the system are that a time-saving tagging operation is not required and the label is not overlaid, but is an integral part of the package.
